The first ever Capiz edition of the University Games was a learning curve for everyone in the team. Every Unigames for the team is an opportunity to make our preseason adjustments before the UAAP, which is actually the main tournament for any of the UAAP schools. The Unigames provides high-caliber matches throughout many different schools across the Philippines making it the best practice grounds and discovery of athletic performance.
The UP Women’s Volleyball Team made their presence felt sweeping bracket D to gain rank 1 entering the quarter finals at the expense of National University, Foundation University Dumaguete, Ateneo de Davao, and University of San Agustin Iloilo. The team eventually went on to defeat another co-UAAP school, Far Eastern University to advance to the semi-finals. The semi-finals game was a heartbreaking match between Adamson University as an early injury affected the over-all performance of UP. The all-out semi-finals game eventually took its toll for the next day’s early game for runner-up position. Overall, the tournament showed the improvement of performance and unity of the team despite falling short at the latter part of the tournament.
The video below would best describe the girls’ 2011 Unigames experience… Happy Volleyball!
